About Kristie's Foundation

Learn About Kristie's Expansion

Kristie Kristie’s Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Laurie Kotas.  Her inspiration is her 7-year-old daughter Kristie who passed away on September 29th, 1985 from Leukemia.  It was Kristie’s love of life and end of life experience that inspires Laurie to reach out to other families during this crisis.

Kristie was so full of life and loved dressing up, wild theme park rides, and spending time with her dog and family.  When Kristie’s time was limited, Laurie took every opportunity to find ways to cherish each and every day.  Days at theme parks, feeding the ducks and looking for rainbows are some of Laurie’s most treasured memories.

Laurie’s dream is to change the way we care for terminally ill children and have a very special place for children and their families to go at the end of a child's life. A place where families can have privacy along with the medical expertise and support they need.

Kristie’s Expansion: Due to a desperate need, we are expanding our programs and raising money to open Kristie’s Place; The first family centered, Children’s end-of-life care facility.  The first Kristie's Place will be located in Los Angeles, California with others to follow soon nationwide.  This will fulfill a need that is long past due in the care of terminally ill children.

At Kristie’s Place our focus will be on life, and helping families make the most of every moment their child is alive.  Families can spend time in the Fireside room, take a walk in the gardens, visit the petting zoo, play games in the game room, visit with guests, our King Dillan and family.  Meals will be prepared by local restaurants and chefs. We believe that even in the darkest moments, each day in a child’s life is one that can be lived to its fullest.

Kristie’s Place will be a place where families can find solace and support during some of the hardest days of their lives.  Our children will have a well-furnished suite with the space and privacy they need, along with medical expertise and emotional support.  At Kristie’s Place, we will help children live fully and find comfort in their final days!

Together, our programs compliment each other to help families with all their special needs.  The Family Support Program provides families with emergency funds, respite care, and emotional support during difficult treatments or surgeries.  Kids Club gives local families a chance to escape from their world of doctors and hospitals by offering fun activities to the entire family. Through our Anaheim office, our wish-assist program partners with wish-granting organizations, children's hospice teams and theme parks to help families traveling to Southern California for a child’s Wish Trip or compassion trip. Thank you so much for your continued support and we look forward to sharing our progress with you!
